The problem may be no more than the limited amount of research that has been carried out in Caribbean countries.

I believe that this area would be a very fertile place in which the PCCAC would flourish. I would be willing to help start a chapter.

The association of dietary patterns and risks for prostate cancer do show correlations in other studies around the world. Why are we not picking this up in a high risk area such as Jamaican men?. The blogger seems to believe that low numbers affected the results. I believe that diet is significant as it relates to prostate cancer.

I found a Cuban study not available in a Medline search about cancer mortality in Dominica. It's written in Spanish.

Title: Mortalidad por cáncer en Dominica (1995-1998)
Author: Lourdes González-Longoria Boada
Journal: Rev Cubana Oncol 2001; 17(1): 30-33.

You can find this article free in internet at:
http://bvs.sld.cu/revistas/onc/vol17_1_01/oncsu101.htm

I'm a prostate cancer researcher (pathologist/PhD). I'm currently conducting an extensive research of the prostate cancer literature. I consider Dominica as an island with interesting features for potential prostate cancer research projects. i would be pleased to network with anybody with the same interests.

It is high time Jamaican men get over this great fear of getting a rectal examination from their doctors. This level of ignorance is what is sending so many of our men with prostate cancer to an early grave.

We (Jamaicans) are one of the most anti-homosexual/homophobic people in the world. Why not do the PSA/serology or blood testing then, since many of our Jamaican men do not want physicians going up their rear end.

My fellow Jamaicans, wake up! You won't be considered a homosexual or "batty man" to get tested for prostate cancer. Remember that early detection is vital. Do not wait until it is too late. Regrettably, most of them wait until it is too late.
